Week: Monday, August 14th through Friday, August 18th, 2017
Daily: 9:00am to 3:30pm
Presented by: The Artsmiths of Pittsburgh
PLEASE NOTE: This is a week long summer camp held at The Artsmiths in Mt. Lebanon; each class is a 6.5 hour session. Registering for this camp includes registration for the full week of Monday, August 14th through Friday, August 18th.
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This camp will focus on how one inhabits the place they call home: the house, the neighborhood, and the city; family and friends that make-up and enhance that space; memories of how home and its inhabitants have changed over time; and one’s aspirations for a future within and beyond that space and community. Projects will include creating a portrait of one’s home, building a map of one’s neighborhood, sketchbook exercises in response to daily observations and prompts, writing a story reflecting on a favorite experience from one’s past, and creating a memory jug using found objects. Media and techniques used will include: paints, drawing tools, photography (cell phone), photo transfer, collage, sculpture, paper mache, and walking art.
INSTRUCTOR: After not creating work for over ten years following his undergraduate experience, Jeff Brunner was afraid of losing the creative momentum that he gained while working on a recent project. In 2012, he committed himself to create an illustration a day and 365 Critters was born. Since then he has exhibited widely in the area, participating in events like Handmade Arcade and Three Rivers Arts Festival, where he was awarded an emerging artist scholarship in 2014. Jeff also has also lead workshops and taught at Union Project, Pittsburgh Center for th Arts, and The Mattress Factory. Prior to moving full-time as an artist, he worked as a gallery registrar, museum cataloguer, and librarian at Bucknell University, the Andy Warhol Museum, and Washington & Jefferson College, respectively. Feel free to follow his work online at heybeast.com or on social media at @heybeast12.
MATERIALS NEEDED: All materials are provided by the Artsmiths of Pittsburgh and costs are included in the tuition.
LUNCH: Students must bring a packed lunch unless other arrangements have been made through The Artsmiths by completing our Lunch Sign Up Form and paying the resulting fees at least one week prior to the start of camp. A limited amount of food and beverage may be available for purchase at our Koolkat Café.
